Everett Custom Homes Builds Modern Detached ADU

October 6, 2017
What’s an ADU?
An accessory dwelling unit (ADU) is a secondary residence that exists within a home or as a separate, smaller structure built adjacent to a property’s primary home. Common examples are a basement or above-garage apartment, and a tiny house built on the property of a larger home.

The rise in Portland’s ADU inventory has sparked a paradigm shift in how the public views secondary living spaces traditionally known as “mother-in-law quarters.” Everett Custom Homes brings a poetic edge to the market introducing their micro-modern “Dahl” house, inspired in-part by writing huts and tiny homes that once assisted many famous authors in their success. But at 714sf, these 2-story homes will fit more than a wild imagination.

Enter the cedar front door to into the sleek kitchen-great room, a comfortable entertaining space with a half bath, ample storage, and even access to a mini backyard. Retreat upstairs to the private faux-loft bedroom, full bath, and walk-in closet with stacked laundry capabilities. Clear-pane windows decorate nearly every wall, maximizing natural light and offering a Birdseye view of the lush surroundings.

Everett’s first Dahl house is under construction at SW 14th Ave and SW Hume Ct., adjacent to the 2,566sf modern Box — one of the leading-edge designs from this year’s Modern Home Collection. A cedar fence will provide neighborly privacy between the two homes, though the property itself will be shared. Once completed, the homes will be listed individually but with the option to purchase under a single owner.

Everett’s skill set also includes 3-story homes with an ADU at the lower level. The apartment is accessible through a separate exterior door or from inside the main home, and includes a bedroom, full bathroom, kitchen, and additional closet for stacked laundry units.

Everett’s first detached ADU will be complete in December 2017, with the attached ADU plans following shortly after.
