Construction Monday – Lighting

July 18, 2016

Happy Construction Monday…..we love energy-efficient products that are great for the environment and the pocketbook! In all of our Everett homes, we install Energy Star-rated compact fluorescent lighting (CFL’s) in 95% of all light fixtures.  Earning the ENERGY STAR certification means the product meets strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the US Environmental Protection Agency. Lighting products that have earned the ENERGY STAR label deliver exceptional features, while using less energy. Saving energy helps you save money on utility bills and protects the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Did you know….

  • Compared to regular incandescent lights giving off the same amount of light, CFL’s use about 70-90% less energy and last 10 to 25 times longer?!
  • Even though a CFL costs a little more up front, it can save a homeowner over 5 times its purchase price in electricity costs over its lifetime.
  • CFL’s meet strict quality and efficiency standards that are tested by accredited labs and certified by a third party.
  • CFL’s produce about 70-90% less heat, so it’s safer to operate and can cut energy costs associated with home cooling.

In 2013 alone, Americans – with the help of ENERGY STAR – saved $30 billion on their utility bills and prevented greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to the annual emissions from more than 58 million vehicles, by using ENERGY STAR products. Who would’ve thought that a little light bulb would have such a huge impact on the environment?! And even if you’re looking for a simple way to be more “green”, this is a simple fix that will have a positive impact. Until next time…..
