Employee Spotlight – Bruce Howard – Land Acquisitions

May 18, 2017

Acquiring developable land within the urban growth boundary can be a hefty task. That’s why Everett entrusts land acquisitions to Bruce Howard, Portland native and outdoor junkie. Read on to learn more about the leader of many Everett projects.

How long have you worked at Everett Custom Homes?

Four years.

What made you interested in working at Everett Custom Homes?

I wanted to work for the best home builder in Portland. Everett had a great reputation, and I really liked Vic and Wally Remmers after I met them.

Compared to other businesses you’ve worked for, what makes Everett different?

The homes Everett builds are second to none, no matter the price point. The Everett home buyers seem much happier with their purchase than I have experienced with other home builders I have worked for in the past. Happy home buyers are very important to Everett, and there are a lot of them here.

What are you most looking forward to in 2017 for Everett?

2017 is going to be a great year for Everett Homes. We are designing and building our modern house plans for the first time this year which is very exciting. We are also starting to build higher density, multi-family housing in the city. This is a big year for Everett.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

When I am not working I like to get outdoors and exercise when possible. I like riding my road bike, hiking, and camping when we have good weather.

Are you a Portland native? If not, what brought you here?

I am a Portland native. I was born in Portland but my family moved to New Orleans and St. Louis for a few years. My parents came to their senses and decided Portland was a much better place to live so we moved back and I have stayed here since.

Where in Portland do you live?

I live in SW Portland in the small City of Durham.

Describe your perfect Portland day.

A perfect day in Portland would include a little sunshine and being outdoors. A bike ride in the morning, wine tasting in the afternoon and dinner somewhere on SE Division street. That is a great day!

What do you love most about the city?

The city has a cool, laid-back quirky charm to it. It feels a lot like a smaller town even though is a good-sized city. I really enjoy spending time in the city and checking out all the unique shops and restaurants there.

Share your favorite Portland neighborhood, and why.

My favorite neighborhood is probably Ladd’s Addition in SE Portland. The old historic houses there are spectacular and it is a quick bike ride to any place in the city.

What tips do you have for those looking for a new home?

You can’t go wrong buying an Everett Home! You will be glad you did.
